SAPS has set 13 November 2026 as the closing date for its police trainee recruitment drive. For applicants, the immediate priority is knowing whether they have merely registered a profile or actually submitted an application for one of the 5,500 posts. SAnews reported the latest figures on 26 October.

The stages overlap, so the totals should not be added together. They describe progress through the system, rather than separate groups competing for jobs. The figures also cannot establish an individual’s selection chances or how many applicants are unemployed.

Use the official route and check the advert

Start at the official SAPS eRecruitment portal. Its application guide separates account registration and profile details from the job application: log in, open SAPS Vacancies, select the post, then complete the application steps. Creating an account alone does not complete that process.

The TRA26/27 vacancy listing specifies South African citizenship, Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification, proficiency in English and another official language, and no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal cases. These are selected requirements, not the full eligibility checklist. Read the complete advert before spending time or data on an application.

The official vacancy notice specifies an age range of 18 to 35 inclusive at the closing date. Applicants must also meet the advert’s other requirements.

If you have already submitted

SAPS said successful submissions remain valid and require no further action, according to the 26 October report. It warned that repeated registration or submission attempts add pressure to the system. Only people without an acknowledgement email should consider reapplying. Read the reported SAPS guidance.

As a practical check, look in your spam folder and review your account before deciding what to do next. Keep the acknowledgement and any reference supplied. If the status remains unclear, use the portal’s official help page rather than creating duplicate profiles.

What follows an application

The selection process includes fitness, psychometric and integrity testing, a medical evaluation and an interview. The launch announcement gives a R5,000 monthly training stipend and says applications are free. A request for payment to secure a place conflicts with that guidance. SAnews’s 21 October recruitment report.

The vacancy advert limits applicants to one application and says selection procedures do not guarantee appointment. It also says applicants should regard themselves as unsuccessful if SAPS has not contacted them within three months after the closing date. An acknowledgement therefore confirms a submission, not a job offer.
